Hudson Valley Handbells, a site for English Handbell ringers, directors and listeners in the Hudson Valley Region of New York State

OUR MISSION STATEMENT: The primary mission of the Hudson Valley Handbell. Festival Conference (HVHFC) is to promote the art of handbell ringing by providing an opportunity for local and/or visiting handbell choirs to perform in a massed, divisional, and solo choir framework, and present a concert to the general public. To further the art of handbell ringing, HVHFC may, at the discretion of the governing body, also provide financial assistance to handbell choirs or members of the Handbell Musicians of America who are in serious documented need.

Scoharie United Presbyterian Church

The offering from the 2012 festival is designated for Schoharie United Presbyterian Church in Schoharie, NY.  On August 28, 2011 the Schoharie Valley flooded as more than 14 inches of rain was dumped on the area by Hurricane Irene.  When the waters receded and the residents of Schoharie returned, they found that 80% of the village, including homes, businesses, churches and municipal buildings, had been under 4 – 8 feet of water.

Schoharie United Presbyterian Church was one of the churches affected, including the historic sanctuary, fellowship hall and parsonage.   The insurance adjustor estimated damage at over $1 million for the buildings alone.  Also damaged were the Malmark handbells, Schulmerich chimes, other equipment and most of the library.  Estimates for refurbishing the bells and chimes and replacing additional equipment is estimated at over $5000.  Your generosity this evening will help get the refurbishing underway so that the church can resume its once active handbell program.

Their website can be found here.
